Yesterday, Reuters reported that a San Francisco-based company will be building the world’s largest solar power generation plant, also called a farm.
The proposed plant will provide 80 megawatts, almost 17 times larger than the current leader, the Springerville Generating Station, located near Tucson, Arizona. That farm currently produces 4.6 megawatts.
The farm will cover 640 acres, and be located near Fresno, California. The company, Cleantech, has two other farms slated for construction in the same general area and of the same size.
Although all the details are not yet worked out, the projects will make a dent in the amount of electricity that California has to buy from other states at peak times.
