Katie Couric Regrets Move To CBS

In an article from the Associated Press, an interview recently done with Katie Couric has her stating the move has been less than satisfying. Reasons cited are the recent forced changes back to the same format used by CBS Evening News for years.
Far from moving up in the ratings, the CBS offering is still third, and no movement seems possible at this time. Ms. Couric has been dressing differently than when first at the post, she has been conducting fewer interviews, and the outside opinion part of the newscast has been completely removed. [This was done almost immediately after her arrival at CBS, as Bill Maher was quick to point out on his show, Real Time.]
Apparently a pretty face, sitting in front of the camera, from behind a desk, was all that was needed at CBS, and Ms. Couric’s new theme song should be ‘Won’t Get Fooled Again’.
Too bad, as she also brought a brain, used for more than rote repetition of the news.

Huh? Couric’s initial weeks look to turn the evening news into the same sort of brainless pap suited for those idiotic morning shows. After the curiosity factor wore off, her ratings tanked and CBS News was back in third place long before CBS decided to axe the more lite parts of the broadcast’s makeover.

Some of the stuff might be considered light, but certainly not the concept of a guest commentator, coming in, having full ability to say what was on their mind. Too bad that did not make it, but hardly fluff.
As for doing interviews, like in the morning…sounds kind of like a program, also on CBS, really well received, critically acclaimed…you know 60 Minutes. Would it not have been nice to get some of that kind of journalism every night?
Besides, most of the garbage we have to hear each evening needs a little dressing up…if a pretty face and a nice voice makes it easier to cope, and gets more people watching, and becoming informed, where is the harm? In fact I’d say that would have been great. There are too many that know too little of what is going on each election cycle. That is why we are in Iraq now, and the rest of the country is sliding down a large hill.
