Television Personalities Changing Partners

Reported in the New York Post yesterday, Campbell Brown, weekend news anchor for the Today Show, on NBC, and more importantly, fill in for Katie Couric during her times off, is moving to CNN. She is understandably upset that she did not move into Katie’s seat when Couric went to do the nightly news at CBS.
Ms. Brown has every reason to be upset. She was intelligent and personable, doing the fill ins with aplomb. It also shows that experience at a specific job means nothing in corporate America today. Perhaps the companies who cry about the poor work habits of employees should take inventory of the things done for employees to engender any sort of loyalty.
Speaking of loyalty, the possible replacement of Paula Zahn, is one of the reasons Campbell Brown is making the move. Competent job performance seems to not be enough all over.
In another story, retired general Wesley Clark seems to have had enough of being ‘fairly unbalanced’ at Fox News. He is making the move to MSNBC. Still not clear is if he is considering being a candidate in 2008 for president. It is clear that most Democrats have been attacking Fox News lately, and therefore no possible candidate wishes to be associated with it.
In entertainment talk, Jon Stewart is being spoken about in possible replacement for Conan O’Brien when Jay Leno moves on to greener pastures. This would seem to be a step down, as he has a great deal, and loyal audience at Comedy Central. Beyond that, he should be an 11:30 guy, since no one wants to try to nap through the Tonight Show, and then wake up for the good stuff at 12:30.
It seems the job market on television closely resembles the job market for the rest of the country, which is as it should be.
