Dog and Pony Show Comes to Town!

Tonight, the candidates for the top executive position, from the Grand Old Party, will pull out all the stops, to put on a show that will see them all: gently whipping the dog (George Bush), riding the painted pony (she’s a grand old flag,Yankee Doodle!), and putting on their best faces to show the American public how tremendous our life will be once we elect them to that spot.

They will be whipping the dog (gently, of course) because they have to establish their credentials as ‘good Republicans’ by showing allegiance to the current administration, while simultaneously holding their noses to acknowledge the vile stench that has been coming from our capital city. This will, using circus analogy again, be quite the tightrope walk. Care must be given to find the right thing to congratulate the incumbents on, without affecting anything that can be attacked by the press.

Each will laud the great job done by the troops, without completing any phrases that would allow us to know they are feeling as bad about the stupid loss of life as we are. Each will relate the last visit taken to the war zone. The appropriate congratulations will be given to our commanders in the field - well, those who haven’t jumped ship and said what they really think.

Next they will try their best to look presidential. This is, simply put, a real stretch for a bunch of old white guys who have been in the vaults, counting their money, for so long the light of day never touches their skin. There was a run on overnight tanning products yesterday.

The really interesting part will be how successful each is at differentiating from the others. Since all want to show how tough on terror they will be, there will be much thumping of chests and beating of fists on the podium. (Wow, I hope those in charge don’t forget the podiums!) All will want to court the ostensibly religious right, so that that voting bloc will be theirs. All will give stories of faith, with Romney making extra efforts to show how normal he is. All are wealthy, so hearing anything about helping the middle class or the poor will be considered trés gauche.

If any question is given about the ecology, we may see some stumbles here, as these guys favorite color happens to be green, just not forest green. It will be interesting to see if any has the nerve to make the challenge to the effects of industrial pollution. You know most of them think that money will protect them from any environmental disaster.

After the debate, each will claim victory, thanking the public profusely for the opportunity to obfuscate their positions on everything. Anything or position not completely explained is given the blank smile, because being precise could lead to a bad outcome.

Get the popcorn, and salt water taffy for the kids (keeps them quiet)…

Welcome back my friends, to the show that never ends, were so glad you could attend, come inside, come inside.

(I’ll give major props to any who come out and say they made a mistake siding with the President and Vice President on anything. Blind allegiance is the worst form of stupidity.)

Since when did Lockergnome be come a political forum? And, where is the opposing viewpoint? I’m this close to cancelling my subscription to anything lockergnome because it has recently become more and more political, and in that vein, increasingly one-sided. My suggestion to Lockergnome, and indeed the grand poobah himself Mr. Pirillo (including all of his minions), leave the politics out, and get back to the geeky tech stuff Lockergnome is famous for.

I agree 100% with Dan. Keep with tech and stay out of politics. Your depth of knowledge is not as great and the topic is far less simple.

Yes,

PLEASE keep the politics out of it.

You have a right to your ‘ridiculous’ political opinions as do I.

But I want geek, the whole geek and nothing but the geek.

Leave politics out !

I agree with Dan, I also have considered canceling my subscriptions to anything Lockergnome. Can we PLEASE drop the political posturing and “get back to the geeky tech stuff Lockergnome is famous for.” That is what I subscribed for… If I wanted political drivel such as this I have the choice of thousands of toxic feeds on the web but there is (or perhaps was) only one lockergnome. Is the king dead?

I want to echo the refrain to leave the politics out. I’ve seen no mention of the whiplash inducing flip-flopping by Hillary and company on anything about the war, or Mr. Jefferson being indicted on bribery charges in the Democrat’s version of the culture of corruption nor anything about their promise to keep the pork barrel addendum’s out in the open and now being told by the leadership to wait until the last minute in the fall when there will be no opportunity to debate them. See what I mean? What has any of this to do with computers and geekdom? I don’t care if you’re a raving liberal or a thoughtful conservative. I subscribe for your opinions on things computing and that’s it. Shut up and compute! :)

Blind allegiance, Chris, is following a scientifically-light schemer like AlGore, who on one hand is promoting manmade global warming legislation and on the other is making big buck$ by marketing carbon emission credits for himself and corporate clients around the world. Cap and Trade is really a ponzi scheme. The king makers are the ones who hand out the carbon allocations and then the rights to sell and trade those credits in the future.
I can’t believe, Chris, that someone as intelligent as you is falling for this gigantic ruse.

I agree to keep the politics, porn and old old information of off Lockergnome. I have been a subscriber for many years and have seen this recent downhill slide. Stick to the tech stuff, Chris.. You have provided such great information on many topics. Stay away from politics, sex and religion!!!

By the way the links to related topics are often to very old stuff… and it is distracting.

Blind allegiance is the worst form of stupidity and it’s ironic that the author is so blatantly guilty. If he/she weren’t so blind they would not make stupid statements like “Each will laud the great job done by the troops, without completing any phrases that would allow us to know they are feeling as bad about the stupid loss of life as we are. ” The troops that are over there are all volunteers. There has never been a conflict where anyone lost their life that was not stupid. To single out this one is the stupid stand. In fact, we have much more to lose/gain with this one that most of the conflicts we’ve ever been in. And to point out the loss of life “over there” and to ignore the much greater loss of life right here in our own country caused by drunk drivers is to further prove that the auther is an idiot. And add to that number the people that commit homicides that should be in jail but are let out by bleeding heart liberal judges and parole commitees and the numbers of those giving their lives “over there” are miniscule. Why don’t the morons that are whining about what is happening “over there” look at what is happening “right here”? I’ll tell you why, because they have their head up where the sun don’t shine. If they were really concerned about life, they would do something about the dramatically higher number of those losing their lives needlessly right here.

Over 20,000 abortions occurred in the United States last week. Until “progressives” address their blantently self-evident cognitive dissonance regarding these “stupid losses of life” as eloquently as they can about the loss of life of those of our volunteer forces (who are fighting for something beyond their next cup of Starbucks), so-called “words of wisdom” from a gaggle of individuals such as theoracle (nice humble name, by the way) will continuously fall on deaf ears.

As an American, you have a right and a duty to speak your mind about any topic you wish. However, don’t expect to be able to vomit up a gut-full of anger regarding your latest pet cause and pass it off as an “argument” without facing the consequences of it clearly showing its poor construction, falacies and irrationality.

Hey, just a thought!

Since the post by “Oracle’ had to be made in jest. (nobody could be that obtuse, could they?), I had an Idea. When I was a little boy we had “double features” at the movie theater. Maybe the next time the Republican and Democrat debates could be held the same night! If they do that, the popcorn sales would soar!!

Chris when did lockergnome become a political soapbox. I can find thousand of those types of web pages if that’s what I wanted to read about. I have recommended your site to individuals as the best “Geek” site around for computer information as I believed that was your intention. Now with the political prespective being on the scene I may need to start recommending the Kim Komamdo site www.komando.com instead.

I agree about keeping the politics/porn (there’s a difference??), and very old information links off of Lockergnome. I also happen to agree with the gist of what the article had to say, although my gut says it applies equally to both groups of evasively babbling, posturing, questionably qualified airheads. While I am not a geek - I just use these things - its good to have places to go hide while learning.

But it is very important to remember that these clowns will do anything to get themselves elected irregardless of their lack of any substantiated qualifications. One of them (not presently running) reputedly has claimed to have invented the internet. Others in the past have claimed to be “car guys” when addressing the motorsports community. Then there are those who couldn’t hit a bull in the backside with a banjo who claim to be avid hunters when speaking to that segment - and also claim to be strong gun control advocates when talking to others. And the whole stinking lot of them are too adept at adapting chamelionlike to any situation where they can get a vote. These people MUST be watched very very carefully. We must protect our own interests - i.e. those of the American people and our children and their childrens children.

Wow.. this is pretty sad - and pretty typical. Someone publishes their opinions and all who disagree start complaining and threatening to cancel their subscriptions, etc.

First of all, no one forced any of you to read this. I’m sure you could have figured out that this was an article expressing political opinions and you could have closed your browser window without reading it if you didn’t want to read it. I can’t see any reason why Lockergnome should not be allowed to provide a forum for distribution of information on a wide variety of topics. It’s not like this is a printed magazine that can only have so many pages, where a page dedicated to allowing someone to express their political opinion means one less page dedicated to technical information. You have the option of reading only the pages that interest you, while ignoring anything that does not.

I would also like to point out that everything the author said here applies pretty much the same to the Democrats. They will all play the same kind of political games that the Republicans play. Both major parties are equally guilty of being little more than a bunch of slimy used car salesmen trying to con voters into believing that one of them is selling a good used car at a good price, when in reality, they’re all out to give themselves more wealth and more power at our expense.

Blind allegiance is the worst form of stupidity. It goes both ways and applies equally to supporters of both major parties.

Rick

Unless your willing to look like the fool Alex Baldwin, follow Dan’s advise and keep your nose out of politics. You are one with “Blind allegiance ” and your stupidity is shining through.

Ray

I seriously doubt all Chris Pirillo’s readers are mentally challenged schizophrenics, so I recon most of these posts are shills originating from Nigerian servers. It’s elephant roastin’ time, and the MAJORITY of Americans are sharpenin’ their shish-kebabs!
Don’t stop Gnomers!

I agree with Oracle’s view (and I’ve turned way more left leaning than him in recent years, after a whole life voting right wing. That’s what 7 years of Bush will do to you).

That said, let’s KEEP THE POLITCS OUT, this is simply not the right forum for it. When I want to discuss that stuff, there’s plenty of sites out there to go to.

Sneaking it in this newsletter is very distracting and annoying. Akin to renting a Disney movie and finding somebody inserted porn in the middle of it.
You’re either in the mood for Disney, or in the mood for porn. Rarely you want to get both at the same time.

Hilarious — in the middle of the article, there’s a video ad for John McCain!

Chris & the Starbucks crowd are still young…
“If you’re not a liberal when you’re 25, you have no heart. If you’re not a conservative by the time you’re 35, you have no brain” Winston Churchill

I told Chris many moons ago that this would happen when the “geek” was replaced with political diatribe. Right before I stopped subscribing to anything Lockergnome.

At that time as now, If we want political BS there’s FauxNews (Fox) or the new and improved Clinton Network News (CNN). What next? Whacked out Rosie as a Lockergnome contributor!?!?

Why are all these folks roasting you for your attempt at your First
Ammendment Rights? You are perfectly welcome to continue and if they
do not like it they can certainly tune in to a different channel or use the
on/off switch, afterall, isn’t that what those knobs are for?

Interesting, no one wants political discourse here, yet manages to weave in their opinions during the complaint. For those not in the know, I am not Chris. To those of open mind, you are correct in that the left probably does the same type of things, just to a much smaller extent. As for the ads, I truly am not responsible. For the ads I am sorry, everything else, not so much.

Well Oracle, I think it is wonderful that you are stating your opinions. I agree with what another reader above stated; those who disagree are the ones ranting! If you had been on their side, you would have received pats on the back, and thank yous for stating *the truth* in their opinion. I think it is wonderful that Chris has allowed content to be included in these newsletters outside the scope of computers, it leaves reading them much more interesting! The wonderful part is that we all are capable of adding our opinions too! It seems unfair though that these people are so offended that they cannot tolerate even seeing a differing opinion other than their own! When one is SECURE in one’s self and in one’s beliefs, there is no reason to take offense! It is only those on rocky ground within themselves that feel opposing opinions should be outside the scope of their reality…we wouldn’t want anything to CHALLENGE what we think…would we? Thank you…I appreciated what you had to say!

Seems to me this is YOUR website and you should post whatever gives you pleasure/satisfaction/sense of accomplishment–etc.

Still, something to be said for “organization.” Many blogs have subject areas clearly delineated. Geek at the Top, Other at the bottom would be a crude bifurcation. Or Geek, Politics, Culture etc, you get it.

Course, if you desire to p*ss-off the low-browed knuckledraggers, mix it up.

bobbo.

Political discussion is what makes our country great, but I do not think it belongs at lockergnome. Keep on the geek

What Do You Think?
