Today I was getting ready to start class and deicded to read some news as I waited for the professor. I picked up my Blackberry Pearl and navagated to CNET Mobile only to find out the makers of Blackberry, Research in Motion (RIM), were working we several companies to in my opinion make the Blackberry much less of business phone or just more friendly to everyone else.

The first feature I read of there was RIM would now be striking a deal with TiVo to allow remote scheduling. Below you can read the excerpt from the CNET article.

Blackberry users will now be able to schedule their TiVo recordings from their phone, and in the future, view those recordings from a Blackberry. (Possibly stealing SlingPlayer for Blackberry’s thunder? Sling, by the way, said today SlingPlayer for Blackberry is on track for release later this year.

Currently with your TiVo you can remote schedule on TiVo’s websites among other TV Listing websites such as Yahoo TV. The disappointing part about this process is it may take up to 24 hours, when your box receives the next update. What I have heard is as long as you have it connected to your network it will happen almost instantly by the TiVo service contacting your box.

Later I also found out some more exciting news for me as a Blackberry user that had been released earlier in the week. Microsoft Live search is going to be built into the next Blackberry browser. I have yet to decide if this is a good thing or not. On one hand it will be easier to make searches from my Blackberry, but on the other hand I really would prefer Google search.

Another feature coming according to this CNET article, RIM will be enhancing their Blackberry’s with a few other features including Myspace Mobile along with the already includedFacebook Mobile and the partnership with Slacker internet radio to offer custom radio stations along with an allowance of 1,000 songs to be stored on the deceive.

To conclude, I am personally extremely excited about the remote scheduling of my Tivo and the Radio stations which will provide some extra entertainment. I also can’t wait for more exciting things to come to make the Blackberry less of a Business Phone and more of a mix like the iPhone.

CNET Article Refernece,

I am sure many of you are familar with problems of websites not being able to handle their traffic load. For instance, recently Twitter has been having tons of problems keeping all their services running. And at this point I am really surprised they haven’t gotten it down. It isn’t like they didn’t know they were going to have tons of traffic. Also I am very surprised they refuse to maintain/upgrade. Maybe at this point I shouldn’t be surprised because of all the other problems they have had yet I still am.

Another site; NatnAlex had live chats w/o video back to back. Both days their servers couldn’t handle the load which ticked me off to no end. Now this site should know better as well as Twitter perhaps they need to learn some server tips from Facebook and Google and dare I say Microsoft.

Sincerely,

VMware and Parallels for Virtual Machines

It doesn't matter if you're running on Windows or Mac OS X - every power user needs either Parallels or VMware (or both). There's never been an easier way to test software without destroying your primary operating system's stability. Think of how many times you wish you could press a 'reverse' button on your computer. Plus, there's no easier way to try new Linux distributions - see what all the fuss is about. Run Windows in OS X, run Linux in Windows, but the best way to do either is with VMware and/or Parallels.
