It’s a dirty job.

Sorry I haven’t been around; I’ve been up to my neck in dirt cleaning a home for a friend of mine who’s stuck in bed for a while. His entire home was filled with trash — up to about halfway to the ceiling. Yes, it was that bad. I figure this is as good time as any to give you a top five list for cleaning a disaster area.

Number One:

Start from the top and work your way down: It doesn’t do any good to clean the floor when there’s trash on counters that will just fall right back onto it. Besides this way you can brush all the loose dirt onto the floor and save yourself a bit of time.

Number Two:

Go for the worst area first: The name of the game when house cleaning is to make as big of a impact as passable within the least amount of time. Thus you should always go for the worst mess first.

Number Three:

Use Dawn detergent on everything but wood and floors: Dawn is a cleaner’s best friend — it just eats through anything and makes work a lot easier. Just make sure you rinse the surfaces off really well.

Number Four:

Stack anything and everything in one corner of the room: This is so you can clean the floor easier and get everything. A lot of cheap house cleaners won’t do this.

Number Five:

Double check everything: At the end of it all, you might not be as done as you think you are. Oftentimes you might accidentally make a mess where you have already cleaned. So it never hurts to double check.

As for me I’m done cleaning for a while thankfully. I don’t mind cleaning, but dang, his house was bad.
