Macs Not The Ugly Duckling!

A argument I never thought would need to be talked about!
Very strange, I was in a chat room and some one was complaining about something different for once, in the Mac VS Windows war. Looks! Appearance. Since when did Appearance serve functionality, or since when was that a main selling point to some one for a PC? I mean LOOK at any Windows PC on the market. Do ANY of them look “Beautiful” to you? No, did not think so.
So I decided to show you a side by side comparison between Mac related products, and Microsoft Products (To be honest I’m going to compare Microsofts own peripherals to Mac related peripherals, and since Microsoft does not really put out any cases of there own, I will compare a random case to the Mac Pro. )
I also will compare a Mac Notebook, to a random lap top. (Notice the change in wording! Thats what I think about Windows “Notebooks“.)
First up a random case.

For a random case it has some nice features, including a side case window to allow you to look into the case. Keep in mind most PC cases are not designed with inner beauty in mind. It takes skill to clean up the inside of a case and make it look gorgeous inside and out.

Now the Mac Pro in this example has its side panel off and EVEN with it off its gorgeous! And it required no moding for it to look so. Also it has something I find very useful. Handles! Now there are PC cases with handles, but mind you this came from Apple this way, with no moding at all.
- Windows Looks: 7/10 Why? No matter what you do, the inside of a PC case just never will look as good as that of a Mac case. They’re all designed as large boxs, with no outer styling to be found unless you heavily mod a case yourself, or buy a non typical case that is nothing more then a prefabbed moded case. Pure and simple.
- Mac Looks:10/10 Why? Not only is the case very functional, but the handles make it easy to move, and it looks just gorgeous. Now many wonder about the bottom handles. I do not, they lift the case off the floor or table and allow GREATER air circulation around the case, it was designed by a genius!
Ok so in the Desktop environment, Mac wins hands down, but not by that much. Lets look now to Notebooks, and Laptops. (If you caught the previous wording you will understand which is which.)
First lets take a look at the Macbook Pro©Apple Inc
©Apple Inc
Very smooth in appearance, nothing really special. It certainly is not ugly by any stretch of the imagination.
Now the Dell Inspiron laptop.
©Dell
By far what I consider to be one the best looking laptops.
- Windows Laptop Looks: Well I have to say, in the looks department the Dell makes it hard to not love it. Just to bad it has such lousy sound etc.. compared to the mac. 10/10
- MacBook Pro: Ok I have to say, yes its not as cool looking as its Dell counter part. But it does function better…Since this is a looks comparison and not a function comparison, I have to award Dell the prize here. 6/10
Fine when it comes to Notebooks, I’m sorry to say Mac is not quite as smooth looking, its a rectangle. However if you consider the Mac Mini© a Notebook due to the fact that it uses the same type of equipment as a Notebook, then it is beautiful itself.
Moving on to peripheral attachments, lets look first at keyboards.
The picture does not do this keyboard justice. Its very slick in its appearance and design and takes up less room then most other keyboards. However..Take a look at this beast, I found right here on LockerGnome!!
©Microsoft Corp.
That is a Microsoft multimedia keyboard, and I can guarantee you its larger then that Mac keyboard. It does however look awesome. So again based on looks alone, well I have to give it to Microsoft. Remember this is a look test not a functionality test, in that department we all know who wins.
- Microsoft Keyboard Looks: Its big and bulky, but its design is nice. Since Im’ talking about looks only, I have to hand it to Microsoft. 9/10
- Mac Keyboard Looks: Its very small, its see through, and really is a slick looking keyboard. But its just not as cool looking as Microsoft’s. 7/10
Now then, here is something very speculative. When it comes to this peripheral there are SO many forms of it, you have standard mice, you have track ball mice, you have joysticks, game controllers..The list is endless, they are all a form of controller, so I will just focus on mice and leave it at that.

The mighty mouse is very nice looking and smooth and slick. Very small compared to…
© Microsoft Corp
Its lil bulkier, and does not really look that spectacular. However it has a decent design.
- Mac Mouse Looks: I have to say its smooth, and very nice in appearance and design 10/10
- Microsoft Mouse Looks: Well it has a good design, little more bulky, but not to bad. 8/10
Well whats my final result? I have to say it actually comes down to what you want, function, or design? If you want just functionality, I say go with Mac. Design? Then its Windows, sad to say when I started this I thought Mac would win hands down, but on second look it seems I was wrong. However I give Macs this, they have a good design and they function allot better then Windows. So I still say Macs FTW.

I personally think that all of the Windows Laptops look ugly. They have this weird slant thing going on. Macbooks are smooth the whole way across. Did I mention that the Macbooks are skinny as well? They’re just as functional as some other laptops, but Macbooks… they’re compact and that’s what I like about them.
Also, newer laptops come with Windows Vista. UGH.
