Don’t Get Over Committed

  • No Related Post

It’s not about not saying ‘no’. It’s about feeling we just can’t do enough. No matter how many things you already have on the go you compare yourself to some other woman and we just don’t seem to be doing as much as she is, or as well as she is. So, some other project comes up and we are all ready and eager to take on the world, again. Even though you already have several projects ongoing and one or more may be getting lost in the shuffle, we still take on more. It’s crazy.

Stop yourself. Know exactly what you have on the go, keep a list in a handy place like right at your computer. Find one of those arm things you can stick on the side of your computer monitor and keep track of your project schedule. Keep track of the events you need to attend and the people who expect you to do more than just show up. Organize so you can see you really do have a lot to do and you are already doing as much as other women. Don’t discount something you are doing just cause something else looks more glamourous, more important or fame-worthy.

If you do want to take on more, decide on what will go first. Make room for a new project by putting away an old one. Finish it up if possible or just withdraw yourself from it. Decide if it’s really important enough, what do you get back from working on it. Pick your battles. Don’t become so over committed that you stall out and can’t even start all the things you have lined up for yourself to accomplish. It’s great to feel needed, to be part of a group and help out with worthy causes but don’t stretch yourself too thin. Make time for your family and yourself, give yourself time to look after yourself too.
