Digital Scrapbooking

I really like web design. I’m not a design wizard or a technical wonder woman but I really admire those who can put together a creative and technically functional website. I’m working on getting there myself. It’s a goal I’m keeping close and I have plans to take an online course over the winter.
One thing I really have been looking at is digital scrapbooking as it applies to creating a website. I’ve always thought of weblogs as a scrapbook (a collage of information, ideas and resources). Many of the scrapbook pages I’ve studied are set up like magazine layouts. As glossy and slick as they look I think they’ve been missing some of the digital aspect of digital scrapbooking.
Right now they could be more like a weblog which includes more interactive things like a messageboard. I really like how Blogger Beta has made it easy to update sections of the blog sidebar. I would use that idea to make updating the sections of my site easy too. The written section could be seperate from the messageboards, the links and the gimmicky things like smileys and personal tidbits. I’m sure I could get it all working once I have that extra technical know-how.
