Becoming a Drive Through Addict

I’m kind of ashamed yet not enough to quit. In the past few months I have become addicted to the drive through window at Tim Horton’s. I have always been a parker, one of those people who park the car, hop out and get my coffee, waiting in the footline with the regular foot traffic. I don’t know what happened. I don’t know why it happened. Today I even wished for a drive through grocery store. Maybe they already exist in the US, I haven’t heard of one. I did see a drive through liquor store in Illinois.
Why do I feel guilty? So many people are drive through people. They can’t all just be lazy or cold or tired. I think I began when I had a bad cold and I didn’t want to get out of the car and spread my contamination around. At least that’s my story. It’s a good one.
It’s not good to become a drive through person. I think of the car running, the fumes and gas. I feel guilt for polluting due to laziness. I think about the exercise I’m avoiding. I think about how people are becoming some sort of neo-hermits, agoraphobic. Still, I was at the drive through today. I did go in when I needed to order bagels. You have to go in to see what’s there and check what looks good. I haven’t sunk to having them hold bagels out the window for me to inspect, not yet.

I think the problem with drive throughs, is they are too darn easy. Lets say you have a hankering for a double quarter pounder at three in the morning. Something you know you shouldn’t have. When you start thinking about getting dressed, combing your hair, driving down there, going in, ordering, etc, it sounds like it’s not worth all the trouble, so you go to bed without that grease burger. Which is a good thing.
With drive throughs though, you don’t have to get dressed, comb your hair, get out of the car, or even put on shoes. It’s all so quick and easy. Too easy.
It’s like me and smoking. When I lived in a place that didn’t allow smoking indoors, and I had to go outside into the cold to smoke a cigarette, I smoked a heck of a lot less because it was too inconvenient. When I can sit at my desk and smoke all I want, I blow through a pack or two a day. It’s too easy.
It’s the same way with drive throughs.

Don’t eat that stuff. It will freaking kill you. Drive over to Blockbuster and rent a copy of “Supersize Me,” instead.
Looking forward to the opening of “Fast Food Nation” next week …

I did that once. It was kind of fun, an adventure being out so late at night and wearing my pajamas to grab a burger and fries. I sold the car and I don’t think anyone would let me just borrow their car after midnight for a burger run. I’m really going to miss having a car! In so many ways.

Nice site, grrlie :)
Drive thru’s are my biggest downfall at the moment. You can order as much as you want and pretend like it’s for your family at home, but in truth, those 2 caramel apple epandadas are for you.
I keep promising myself I won’t go again, but I end up going anyway.
The U.S. doesn’t have drive thru grocery stores yet that I know about, but will deliver food to your house. I haven’t resorted to that yet :)

I used to order food from a pizza shop near my house, because they would also deliver groceries. So if I was out of smokes, order a pizza (they would only deliver groceries if you ordered food), and get the smokes that I was too lazy to go get myself. Man, now that is lazy. And then I not only had nasty cigarettes, but a greasy pizza too!

Mmmm Pizza. Too bad I don’t have enough cash here so I could be lazy and order that for dinner. I guess drive through isn’t quite as lazy as having it delivered. Although it does save me the bus ticket/ gas for the car. :)
