In a remarkable start to the week, Ford set a monumental milestone as a team of drivers flew past the 1,000 mile mark on one tank of gas in a 2010 Fusion Hybrid (on their way to an astounding 1445.7 miles). The 1,000 mile marker was broken while General Motors CEO Fritz Hendersen was in the midst of a press conference announcing that GM’s iconic Pontiac brand would be shut down, most likely for good.
These are crazy days.
Shuttering Pontiac hits home, on both a professional and personal level. Over the last year, I spent four separate weeks working on Pontiac reviews, spending a week with the Pontiac G5 XFE, G6, G8 GT, and Vibe. I grew up in a family that owned a bunch of Pontiacs … along a couple of Fords.
There’s the road we’ve traveled and the road ahead.
The results of the Fusion 1,000 Mile Challenge is proof positive of the great work being done at Ford these days. As a country, we should be proud of their efforts.

I read the article and found it to be more a publicity stunt than dealing with real-world driving situations. Not even the “little ol’ lady from Pasadena” drives like the driver in that stunt. It is totally unrealistic. What would be the mileage if the car was driven in real-world road situations? A friend of my brother has a Honda Civic hybrid and got 65 MPG on a trip back from New Mexico driving at freeway speeds, not 45 MPH.

That’s insane. How could they even do that? I don’t want to know actually. It’ll probaly just hurt my brain. Good job to them though. I give props.
