Buying in Bulk
I’m fascinated with the idea of buying in bulk. But fear not. I haven’t gone completely off my rocker, filled my shed with supplies, padlocked the door, and set the Rottweilers loose … well, not yet at least. But I am slowly accumulating a number of items en masse. For the most part, I’ve been concentrating on non-food items, with boring household essentials, including:
- sandwich bags
- aluminum foil
- kitchen garbage bags
- bath soap
The non-exciting stuff seems to be a good bet … by having a bunch on hand, I don’t run the risk of over-consuming. If we had five giant boxes of cookies, we’d surely eat them all in a week. Not the case with garbage bags. (Then again, I do worry about having a jumbo roll of aluminum foil in the house, just in case I might happen to get the urge to cover the walls and ceilings.))
Winter seems to be a good time to stock up on canned goods, however … the local supermarket chain always has a “Can-Can” sale when it make sense to fill up the cart with canned soup and tuna fish. But that stuff can get mighty boring mighty fast, so I tend not to buy too much of it.
I’ve even gone so far as to have signed up for a Costco card. That’s a first for me … the jumbo warehouse and oversized shopping carts seem like a bizzaro world of massive consumption.
What do you buy in bulk?
