If You Could Control Anything Via the Internet …

Posted by on Apr 14, 2008 | 3 Comments

I’ve long pondered this question: If you could control anything via the Internet, what would it be?

Over the years, I’ve come up with lots of crazy ideas, like RFID tagged socks (August ’04) and net-controlled hot tubs. And I’ve stumbled into plenty of others, like the Proliphix Internet-controlled programmable thermostat.

Sometimes it seems like half of the crazy ideas aren’t so crazy … to the point that someone’s already doing it, somewhere …

If you could control anything (other than an ATM) over the Internet, what would it be?

Our company IS running stuff in clinical Labs through the internet.

We have chose SL (Second Life) as a software platform, the Clinical labs
are a copy on the SL site. As the techs move thru the lab – the SL is updated with the avatars going to the new positions within 4 seconds latent time. We also have h-Robots (www.h-Robot.com) operated thru
the SL by using the v-Robot and positioning it in the VR (virtual Reality)
scene. The h-Robot is moved to the new location in the RL (Real Life)
lab. The person thru his avatar can load and unload diagnostic units
    by manipulating the h-Robots.

This h-Robot is controlled thru the Internet to be used in the clinical labs first and for Remote Control for eldercare applications where it will be feeding and be a servant to the elderly.

Keep up the good work. Us guys in engineering read your articles faithfully.

    Don :-)
