Cheap NAS

I’ve had my eye out for a cheap network attached storage (NAS) device for my home/office network for a while now. But the cheapest NAS was never truly cheap … until now. I was pleasantly surprised when a post from Chuck’s Deals arrived in my mailbox today … Chuck turned up an insanely cheap NAS at buy.com.
How cheap, you ask?
How about twenty three measly bucks? You read it right … $23 … it would be tough to find a cheap NAS for storing digital music and photos for less then that.
Full disclosure time … the price for the $23 Hawking NAS does include a $25 rebate, but it does not include a hard drive. You’ll have to shell out another $75 or so to pick up a nice 250GB unit like the Seagate Barracuda.

Not a bad price for a small NAS.
$75 will get you either 1 new 500G HDD on Ebay
or as I just bought , 2 wd2000 200Gs each.
The best NAS cost $19.00 per year.
That gets you a Yahoo! Mail Plus account with POP mail, unlimited storage, 20MB uploads and NO Adds.
I have some where around 150Gs of programs and because I have my browser set to Not delete mail from the server over 1200 or so emails still on Yahoo.
Many of those emails are Techy type stuff that I sent to myself.

Yahoo mail is good for cheap online storage of your documents.
I think multimedia stuff is going to be the driver for having a decent size network disk in the house.
Oh and $23 is pretty good for a NAS enclosure. Is it fast?
