Free Sales Leads

100 free sales leads for every salesperson in your company? Maybe you caught the commercial out of the corner of your eye. I was kicking back, watching the NY Giants battle the Philadelphia Eagles on NBC in glorious HD. It was in the second half, just before the Giants scored. I didn’t catch the intro, but the visuals couldn’t be missed … a little girl was talking about her dad, just as he returned home with not one new puppy for his girls, but two. The promise inferred that these free sales leads were so hot, they’d lead to fantastic success. I was so preoccupied with watching the puppies (were they yellow labs or golden retrievers?) that I barely had time to catch the name of the company advertising the free sales leads.

It was a dot com that I’ve never heard of before … Salesgenie.com. I wondered how many folks in the target audience (those employed in some sort of sales capacity) completely missed the branding. Then I grabbed my laptop and went for a look at the Salesgenie website.

Salesgenie bills its services as the “ultimate access to sales leads and mailing lists.” They wisely included a big visual link on the front page of the site to “Watch our National TV Commercial, but they (perhaps) unwisely initiated an auto-spawning popup that immediately loaded the commercial … as soon as you hit the front page of the site, the popup window gets in your face.

And then you get to hear the little girl tell the story of her dad, the salesman … the guy that worked too hard and brought home too little … until mom hooked him up with the killer sales leads from Salesgenie.com.

It was a cute commercial, and might even be effective … given the time for the potential customer to digest the message. But is the right time and place to digest that message halfway through the second quarter of the Sunday pro football game of the week?

But what was even more disconcerting was the contents of the “About Us” page on Salesgenie.com … there was nothing on the page to identify the company … no address, no list of executives, nothing. What don’t they want you to know?

So I did a little digging on this lead company
