That surgery is not only very dangerous, but it isn’t permanent. Your vision will revert back over time. My eye doctor said he would never recommend it,and it is way too risky.

Shadow – A number of my friends have had the procedure done and they’re quite happy with it. My eyesight has always been horrid and I’ve thought about getting laser eye surgery for years now. Alas, I’m too damn squeamish. My biggest question is what kind of sedatives would they give me to keep from freaking out in the operating room … :)

Here’s something else to think about: I also heard that one issue with laser correction (for near-sighted) especially for those in the late 30s early 40s is that it may work for a while but as you age you might develop vision issues with close items. For example, your distance vision is fine but then you start having problems with activities such as reading thus the potential need for bi-focals. Last I heard there was no way to give you a laser correction with bi-focal capability so reading glasses would probably be in your future ;-)

That said, of course everyone is different. I just don’t want to risk my eyesight just to avoid wearing glasses/contacts. Glasses have actually protected my eyes on more than one occasion in my lifetime so they aren’t all that bad and who cares if I can see an alarm clock across the room–if it’s across the room it’s because I tossed it there (insert laugh here) and the only thing a clock tells me is that it is time to get up.

Seriously, just wanted to pass that along.

Yep! I’m in that demographic, Mike. After being nearsighted for most of my life, my eyes have changed over the last year or so and I now need bifocals. Sucks getting old, but it sure beats the alternative. :)

Only one I agree on is the Multi-Card Reader. If you’re serious about your computer, good quality RAM is as critical as your processor choice. I refuse to skimp on memory in my system. So should everyone else. I don’t think everyone needs top of the line, but getting the cheap stuff is begging for problems. HDMI cables are also something you shouldn’t skimp out on. If you’re not seeing any difference, then you really don’t need a full HD tv to begin with. I know that spending a little bit extra on you AV cabling does make a difference. I’ve seen it every single time I’ve plugged in a DVD, console, whatever. I’m not saying spend top dollar, but again, buying the bargain basement is begging for trouble

    Disagree on HDMI cables.

All cables have a quality- of course they do.

Having been through a day of testing of the Monster cable line- I know that there is a vast difference in cables. I opened sealed packs of these & other brands & tested both the picture quality & interference.

    You are wrong.

Now, whether a person wishes to invest is another story.

A digital signal is a digital signal up to 565 feet. Unless your TV is that far away, it will not affect it. However, some of the really high end TV’s are in fact affected by the quality of the cable, but that is in the 3D TV range.
