Toner Cartridge Recycling - Found Money

  • No Related Post

I was straightening up the ranch today and for my efforts, uncovered a whopping five toner cartridges that need to be recycled. That’s money in the bank! The boxes sure piled up after I wrote about toner cartridge recycling last fall. There were two cartridges next to the desk, another packed in a cabinet, and two thrown down in the basement.

Needless to say, this is a good time of the year to find money.

Staples is currently offering $3 for every recycled toner cartridge. I’m going to look around again to see if that’s the best deal.

And just for hoots, I might try refilling one of the toner cartridges.

While I didn’t have much luck with that task with my old ink jet carts, it might be worth the $15 experiment, as long as I don’t end up hosing my trusty HP LaserJet 1200 …

The recycled ink cartridges can also be turned into Office Depot for a free pack of paper, ream? of paper..thats where i take mine. might be different in other areas but worth a look..

The Staples in my area does not give the $3.00 for Canon cartridge anymore.

I’ve been adding toner to my old HP 4P toner cartridge for years. I’ve refilled it at least 3 times, and I’ve had no problems with it. I’ve bought the toner refills from an ebay seller. They include instructions on how to do it. You have to burn a hole in a designated spot on the cartridge, big enough to put the spout of the toner bottle into. I used my soldering gun with a flat tip. They also include some metallic tape to cover the hole when you’re done.
Now, refilling ink cartridges is another matter. I’ve never had good luck with that, or using recycled cartridges either.

I tried refilling a toner cartridge for our Samsung all-in-one laser. The after market toner had a horrible odour once it was heated by the drum and the smell permeated the paper even after it cooled down. The online company was called TonerKits.

I’m in the same situation as W. S. Meyer in that the Staples in my area doesn’t give $3.00 for Cannon cartridges.

I bought a Canon color printer specifically for its ink tanks. One tank, one color. My printer has six tanks and refilling them is a snap, unlike the HP ink cartridges. I had an HP 540C and never had any luck in refilling the color cartridge. The sponge inside made it tricky to refill properly. No such problem with the Canon. The refill kit I bought came with everything I needed including a small drill bit to drill a hole in the top of the tank, and plugs to seal them air tight. The first kit I bought had two bottles of black ink (understandable since most text is printed in black), and one bottle of each of the 5 color inks. However I found that the yellow ink tank was first to empty as this one color is essential in creating virtually all other colors. Consequently yellow was the first color to run out. I just ordered another kit from the same vendor, and I’m glad to see that they now include a second bottle of yellow ink in their kit.

As far as toner goes, a $3.00 coupon from Staples is not enough incentive for me to shell out more than $80.00 to buy a new toner cartridge. So I found a refill kit for that as well. It’s a little messier than the ink refill kit, but well worth the effort. Now for the 80 bucks that it would cost to buy a new cartridge, I can refill my old one four times. I just have to make sure I don’t damage the drum when I open the cartridge.

Still I’m looking for a better deal on toner refill supplies.

RE: Toner Cartridge Recycling - Found Money

The 24-hour Walgreens will refill the ink cartridges and guaranteed them. In my town it is $10 for black and $12 for color. They test them and refill them while you wait in less than 30 minutes.
