Barcode printing is a snap these days. Maybe too easy. All you need to do is download a barcode printing program, install it, enter a bit of information, and the next thing you know, you’re printing your own barcodes… so maybe you can slap a new barcode on that nifty new iPod, in the hopes of it ringing up at the register for just five bucks. Uhhhh… or maybe not…

ABC News in Denver reports on the saga of a local college student who (allegedly) thought it might be cool to print his own barcode label for the apple of his eyes and ears.

Truth isn’t always just stranger than fiction. It’s stupider, too. (As in the case of this not-so-swift college boy.)

Yes, indeed… all it took was a simple installation of Barcode Magic, a trip to Target, and presto chango, this fellow had a barcode printed, slapped on, and ready to go… to jail, that is.
