Vacation Rentals

Looking for a new place to spend your summer vacation? You can start chilling, right now … once you start browsing online for vacation rentals, endless hours will melt away at your desk. While searching the vacation rentals online isn’t quite as relaxing as actually being there, you won’t need to slather on the SPF 45 or burn up a tank of gas in your preliminary search for the perfect beach house …

Browsing the commercial vacation resort websites is antiseptic when compared to looking for vacation rental homes. The big resorts can tend to be cookie cutter in nature, while the private houses often reflect the personality of their owners (or lack thereof).

Many families get stuck in the rut of the familiar, renting the same house year-after-year. It’s not hard to understand why. After all, once you’ve found a great vacation rental, it can be hard to give it up. If you’re burned out on the same-old same-old, on the other hand, there’s no better place than the Web to start your search for some new vacation digs.

Everyone has their own criteria for the perfect vacation rental. If you can’t find the answers on the listing page, send an quick friendly email to the owner.

Can you really hear the waves crashing from an open bedroom window? How far is the walk to the beach? Do you have to cross a busy boulevard? Can you walk to the grocery store, for ice cream, to a decent place to eat? Or do you have to hop in a car (or on a bicycle)?

And the one we all forget to think about until it’s too late:

What is there to do if it rains?

Truth be told, it can be tough to roll the dice on a new vacation rental. As nice as a virtual tour might make the place seem, how do you really know if the house is worthy of your hard-earned cash? Once you’ve narrowed down your choices, an investigative day trip can be invaluable (if you’re lucky enough to live close enough to your vacation spot, that is). In other words, start by doing your vacation rental research on the Internet, but don’t make your final decision until you’ve checked it out in the real world … if at all possible.

great article. as owner of cabins near Mt. Rainier National Park, WA I have tried to create a comprehensive and beautiful website. it can be a roll of the dice to chose a vacation rental, especially when the info is limited. we’ve created a big website with loads of photos inside and out, in different seasons. I hope you’ll include a write up on our cabins at Mt. Rainier.
