Hardwood Floor Hunting

I’m getting ready to order the materials for the hardwood flooring project I mentioned last month. You can bet that I’ll have this one laid out on the PC long before I dust off the power tools …
After doing all of the hardwood floor shopping I could stand online, it was time to hit the bricks and mortar stores to see the goods in person.
It wasn’t an easy series of trips. At times, it seemed that the disparity of knowledge between hardwood floor salespeople at different stores varied as much as it did from Jack to Joe at the local big box computer store. You know that sinking feeling you get when you’re talking to a salesperson that knows considerably less about any given product than you do? Whether that product is hardwood flooring or cutting-edge boxes, it’s especially worrisome when you’re basically clueless and out there in search of knowledge.
We eventually found our way to an excellent local flooring store. After much hemming and hawing, we identified a few likely candidates among the store’s selection of engineered hardwood flooring. We took some samples back to rancho indebto and made our decision within minutes of seeing the actual flooring in place. While we loved the look of Brazilian Cherry in the store, once we got it in the house we immediately saw that it was too dark to work with the ceramic tile foyer and laminate floor in the kitchen. Gunstock Oak, on the other hand, worked perfectly … a lucky turn for the wallet, as the oak flooring was half the price of the cherry.
Lets hope that luck continues and I can post photos of the finished job within the next week or so …
