Computer Desk Woes

I can’t stand to sit at my computer desk. With a pull-out printer shelf and a tower hutch, it sure can stow a lot of gear–I’ve had it packed with as many as three computers at a time. It has rudimentary cable management features, and is reasonably handsome (as computer desks go), being hand-finished oak (hey, I finished it myself). But there’s one thing that drives me absolutely nuts about this desk …

The cheesy hardware.

Too many times when I plop down in my trusty ergonomic chair, roll over to the desk, and pull out the keyboard drawer, something happens that makes me rue the day I bought that desk.

The blasted keyboard drawer runs right off its track and lands in my lap.

It’s even worse when the keyboard drawer smashes to the floor, taking the keyboard and mouse with it.

My darling wife has given me the green light (but of course, not the green backs) to get a new computer desk. As much as I’d like to get some wicked new computer furniture (and hey, how about a rack mount server while I’m at it), I haven’t given up on the old desk just yet (seeing as I took all that time to finish it myself).

Instead, I’m on the lookout for some sturdy replacement hardware for both the keyboard drawer and the single desk drawer. My Mr. Fix-It gene just won’t let it go …
