Tax Time Looms

There are three weeks until April 15th. And guess what … I still haven’t started on my taxes. Yeah, I know I wrote that I was going to get started two weeks ago. I’m not lazy, just distracted. While preparing a tax return isn’t anywhere near the chore it was before the advent of tax software, it’s still a substantial commitment. I don’t mind working in TurboTax. Sorting out the paperwork is what takes the time …
My method for paperwork organization is dead simple. Over the course of the year, I throw everything into a big box. When I finally get around to sitting down to do the taxes, I sort all of the paperwork into stacks. I suppose if I took the time to organize things into folders and put them away carefully, I would save a bunch of time at this time of year.
Okay, so maybe I am lazy in that respect.

Procrastination will only get you so far when it comes to getting your taxes done. At some point, you need to bite the bullet and start in on the joy that is the federal (and state!) tax return. If you haven’t loaded that tax software (no matter which brand!) onto your computer yet, there’s no better time than now.
I’m biting the bullet tomorrow. Really.
