What is SSL and why is it so darn important?
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a protocol that provides encrypted and authenticated communication between a server and client over a TCP/IP connection. The SSL protocol was originally designed by Netscape. It quickly became the de facto industry standard for protecting communication, ensuring message integrity, and providing confidentiality over the Internet.
You’ll know that you’re on a secure server when the URL begins with “https.” The “s” indicates that a SSL connection will be used when you hit the Enter key. A secure connection ensures that no one can capture or view your data.
By providing both safety and privacy, SSL is a cornerstone of ecommerce. Every time you enter your personal information — such as your social security or credit card numbers — you put your trust in SSL.
