Nintendo Promises to Ship More of Wii for Holidays.
Nintendo has been heavily criticized over the last two years for its inability to meet holiday shopping demand for the Wii. This year they’re promising a “significant increase” in Wiis in stores, but this quote from Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America makes me doubt they’ll have enough. “Will there be enough to meet demand?” Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, said. “Ask me in January.”
Nintendo is also finally launching their Rock Band/Guitar Hero competitor - Wii Music on October 20 in the US.
Nintendo also announced the new DSi which features a music player (about f***king time), a slightly larger screen, SD Storage slots and not one, but two digital cameras (one facing out & one facing the user). Of course they don’t have any plans to release the DSi in the US until next year, which means a lot more people will be buying PSPs.

I think Nintendo lost many potential customers by not having enough inventory available. What I’ve heard is that when gamers had to wait, they began comparing systems and realized one of the other two is better for certain games or better overall for what they were looking for in a console and decided to opt for xbox or ps3 rather than wait indefinitely for a console that might never be available.
Frankly, I think this whole situation with ’shortages’ is by design on some level…c’mon, shortages every year?? Nintendo could easily re-supply stores even in the ’slow” months and the stores could simply hold on to the units until the holiday season…it’s not as though they wouldn’t be able to unload this product at some point so the worry about having overstock or too many units is unfounded..I’m sure Nintendo can accurately predict supply/demand for its products…
Peace!
