iPhone Tethering in the Works?

Macrumors realeased this little blip about possible iPhone tethering in the works. At this point, I’m truly questioning whether or not an additional $30 monthly fee will make the tethering option worthwhile. To be honest, if Apple would release an update that actually allowed you to view flash content, I don’t even see the need for a computer on-the-go. The lack of Flash, and to a lesser extent Java, support for the iPhone is its “Achilles Heel,” if you will, the only thing keeping it from becoming a true alternative to computer based web browsing. I assume that Apple will eventually produce an update that allows users access to this content and the ability to edit word and other productivity files. At this point, the iPhone will be a true portable computing device and make trifles such as tethering unnecessary.

What do you think? Would you pay an additional $30 per month for tethering? Is the iPhone, in its current state, a viable option to computer based web browsing?
