iPhone 3G: Third Time’s the Charm

My last post on the iPhone was a bit harsh on Apple and ATT. The issue was trivial, and it turns out that I was incorrect about the whole thing. Since my last post, I’ve done something that is almost unheard of amongst many bloggers; I’ve researched. I figured I’d share some of results with you (all 20 of you little buggers). Hopefully this will help you make a decision if you are on the fence about getting an iPhone 3G.
To start with, once the iPhone 3G is activated, it will continue to function as an iPod Touch if the service plan is cancelled. There were also rumors that ATT retained ownership of the phone, seeing as half of the price of the phone is covered by ATT with a two-year agreement. This is not true (sources include three different ATT representatives at three different locations). If you need to cancel your service plan before the two years, ATT has a new prorated termination fee, where five dollars are removed from the original $175 fee for every month that you maintain the contract. A voice plan is required to maintain the contract, and the cheapest voice plan is $30.
So I jumped the gun a bit, and I have ordered an iPhone since then. Now I’m waiting the 10-20 days to receive it. I plan on chronicling this entire iPhone journey, so be sure to stay tuned. I f you have any questions about the iPhone 3G or anything else, feel free to leave a comment.
