During Adobe’s Q2 earnings call Monday, chief Shantanu Narayen said that Adobe had tackled some of the technical challenges to getting Flash to work on the iPhone:

We have a version that’s working on the emulation. This is still on the computer and you know, we have to continue to move it from a test environment onto the device and continue to make it work. So we are pleased with the internal progress that we’ve made to date.

Sounds good, but Steve Jobs already expressed his disapproval of Flash on the iPhone. Apparently their mobile version of flash isn’t good enough, and the desktop version is too slow. There’s been no word from Apple yet if they would allow Adobe to make a browser plugin, or if it would be a standalone app. I’d love to see flash on the iPhone. YouTube is great, but there are a lot more videos available elsewhere on the web.

Cellfire is an interesting service that provides coupons right on your cellphone for several popular locations including Hollywood Video, Subway, and Dominos Pizza. While the existing deals are limited, they have been adding new partners regularly.

After signing up you access the site from your phone or from their Cellfire application. During the registration you must give them your zipcode, which allows them to show you only deals for locations nearby. When you want to find a coupon you simply pick which coupon or deal you want, then confirm you want to use it. Each offer can only be used a limited number of times. After you confirm you will see a special code that you just show to the employee. You can see a demo of it here.

Mobile coupons certainly sound more useful, since most people will always have their phone with them. Unfortunately the deals with Cellfire are kind of limited, but as more partners realize the potential more locations will be added.

FriendFeed, a service launched by several ex-Google employees, has just opened up into public beta. The site allows you to track your friend’s activity across many social networks like Digg, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube and many more. All of your friends activities will be organized into one feed, similar to the news feed on Facebook.

When creating an account, you enter in your usernames for all of the social networks you are active on. This gives you a single page with all of your activity and the ability for other FriendFeed users to subscribe to all of your services at once. You can add other FriendFeed users, or create ‘imaginary’ friends for those that haven’t signed up. While this is definitely a nice feature, it is very time consuming. There’s no way to import friends from your social networks or to add multiple accounts at once. I wish they added an auto-discovery feature, similar to Spokeo, that would help cut down the setup time.

Overall I like FriendFeed. It’s design is much better than Spokeo’s, but it could use some more powerful features. It is still a great way to keep track of all your friends in one place.

Yahoo has announced to big projects recently. The first is Yahoo Buzz, a Digg-like site featuring stories from a select number of sources. This is the biggest difference between Digg and Buzz, users cannot submit stories on Buzz. Users can only Buzz up (or down) a story. Yahoo not only incorporates the number of Buzzes, but also how many users are sharing the story, and the traffic of the related search term. This would help Buzz break stories faster, since more people are likely to search for a news story than click Buzz.

Yahoo also said that some of the top stories from Buzz will appear on the Yahoo homepage. According to TechCrunch, Wired recieved 2 million visitors from a story on Yahoo’s homepage after only two hours.

Yahoo other announcement was Open Search, a plan to open up their search results. Webmasters will be able to use meta data to add information into the Yahoo search results. For example, a restaurant review from Yelp appeared like a traditional result before (top picture). Now the result will show a picture and some extra information provided by Yelp (bottom picture).

This feature is fairly similar to Google’s Subscribed Links, but is more visible in two ways. Yahoo said some of these extras will be enabled for all users, and others will be available by choice. It also is changing the appearance of the actual results. Google’s service just adds extra content above the results. This data is also likely to draw more eyes to any site that displays it, which will most likely lead to more traffic.

Those looking for official iPhone apps may have to wait a bit longer. BusinessWeek is reporting that the iPhone SDK may be delayed. The date may be pushed back one to three weeks. Apple previously claimed the iPhone SDK would be out by February. There are also rumors of an Apple event in the end of February, most likely to discuss the iPhone SDK.

This seems to be a new trend with Apple. OSX 10.5 Leopard was delayed due to work for the iPhone. Other sources say that the iPhone was under serious work until the last minute. Even more recently the Apple TV 2.0 update was delayed several weeks passed the announced date at Macworld. I hope Apple hasn’t grown too big.
