Adobe Flash On iPhone?
During Adobe’s Q2 earnings call Monday, chief Shantanu Narayen said that Adobe had tackled some of the technical challenges to getting Flash to work on the iPhone:
We have a version that’s working on the emulation. This is still on the computer and you know, we have to continue to move it from a test environment onto the device and continue to make it work. So we are pleased with the internal progress that we’ve made to date.
Sounds good, but Steve Jobs already expressed his disapproval of Flash on the iPhone. Apparently their mobile version of flash isn’t good enough, and the desktop version is too slow. There’s been no word from Apple yet if they would allow Adobe to make a browser plugin, or if it would be a standalone app. I’d love to see flash on the iPhone. YouTube is great, but there are a lot more videos available elsewhere on the web.

This mirrors lots of graphics `solutions’ over the years. When I first started browsing, I turned off graphics to speed up surfing over my (2400 baud?) modem.
If Mr. Jobs doesn’t approve, I’m forced to agree with him (note: monitor the temperature Down Below, as it has just frozen over).
I just don’t `get’ Flash but more power to those who do. I’d wait til they get it right, though. It’s a combination of coding, processing power, bandwidth and whatever else, so the time’s not right yet.
I’m a Treo user and there’s no way I’d put something that resource-intensive (and insecure) on my PDA. Insufficient resources at the moment.
