Microsoft Drops HD-DVD, What Took Them So Long?

HD DVD logo

Microsoft has finally announced their plans to stop production of the HD-DVD players for the Xbox 360. What took them so long? Toshiba, the big HD-DVD backer, left before Microsoft. Microsoft still plans to offer warranty support for any existing players.

Microsoft also said they don’t believe this will harm the Xbox 360. They do offer (and make more money) from the ability to download movies and TV shows directly on the 360. The question is, how long until a Blu-Ray player is announced (or built-in?).
