Microsoft Promises More Interoperability

Microsoft has announced they will open up more documentation for their API’s and protocols. Documentation will be free to make sure any developers will be able to properly interact with Microsoft’s software. The documentation was previously only available under a trade secret license. This new documentation for Windows Vista, Office 2007 and their business software like Windows Server 2008.

Microsoft has also promised to not sue open source developers who use Microsoft’s protocols or patents in their non-commercial software. One consumer benefit mentioned in the call is the API’s for Office 2007. This will allow developers to create plug-ins to support more document formats.
