Microsoft was planning on producing a browserless version of Windows 7 just for Europe but they feared that it would cause confusion for those who are not able to download a browser. Microsoft General counsel Mr. Brad Smith said ” Under our new proposal, European consumers who buy a new windows PC with Internet Explorer set as their default browser would be shown a ‘ballot screen’ from which they could, if they wished, easily install competing browsers from the Web.” But, he added, “PC manufacturers building machines for the European market will continue to ship (browserless) versions of Windows 7 until that the commission fully reviews our proposals and determines whether they satisfy our obligations under European law.”

In my opinion, if the European Commission makes Microsoft produce Windows 7 without a browser, then Windows 7 will be a complete fail; in a recent study, 1/3 of Europeans have never used the web, so if a European is buying his/her first computer, where are they supposed to get a browser? So do you think Europe is taking this a little too far with the whole “monopoly” thing?

The Loop is citing, “Very reliable sources familiar with the product have said speculation of the tablet being introduced during the September event are flat out wrong. The Apple tablet, they said, would not see the light of day until the first part of 2010.

The event in September will be focused on music, which means we could see new iPods and perhaps some updates to iTunes. The tablet computer will not even be mentioned as part of the event, my sources said.” But this is not the worst news possible since the source says that the Apple Tablet will be available in 2010. So will you buy the Apple Tablet or just go for a MacBook?

From September 2008 to April 2009 the percentage of Americans watching TV shows and movies online have doubled and the study also shows that most users who do watch TV shows and movies online are between the ages of 18 to 24. The Ipsos MediaCT has also found that 26 percent of Americans have watched either a movie or TV show on the internet in the last 30 days. This shows that online viewing of movies and TV shows is growing, but the study also finds that 64 percent of Internet video users would rather watch one-hour television programs on their TV than watch them on a PC or mobile device, rent them, or purchase them.

Windows 7 is coming and this week Microsoft released an upgrade chart to make life a little easier. At first the chart comes off as extremely confusing, but it’s not that scary all you have to do is match up the current OS you have now to which version of Windows 7 you would like. Then the chart tells you if you’re going to just need an In-Place Upgrade where none of your files and settings are touched or if you’re going to need a clean install which means you’re going to have to erase everything .The chart includes XP and Windows Vista Starter which is available only developing countries. By the way there is no possible way of upgrading from XP to Windows 7, so all XP users will have to do a clean install if they want to run Windows 7.

So here are the instructions.

1. Make sure the Recycle Bin is on the desktop.
2. Right click on the desktop and select New and Folder, then rename it anything you like.
3. Drag & drop the Recycle Bin on the new Folder to create a shortcut.
4. Drag the folder to the directory of your choice (i.e. C:\Recycle Bin)
5. Unlock the taskbar.
6. Right-click on the taskbar and select Toolbar and New toolbar
7. Locate the folder and select it and click on the Select Folder button.
8. Now there should be a Separator (dotted lines) on the taskbar.
9. Right click on the Separator and uncheck Show Text and Show Title.
10. Right click on the Separator and select View and Large Icons.
11. Now you have the Recycle Bin pinned to the taskbar.
12. You can also move the recycle bin to a location of your choice by moving the separator.

If you have any questions then just drop me a line in the comment box. Thanks for reading.

While this news was great for those who had a subscription to TechNet, it was not so appealing to the people who weren’t subscribed to TechNet. But today Brandon LeBlanc published another article and he wrote:

“Last week, I blogged that members of the Windows Technical Beta Program would not be receiving a complimentary copy of Windows 7. Normally I hate to be wrong but in this case, I’m stoked that I am.To show our appreciation, members of the invitation-only Windows 7 Technical Beta Program will be eligible for a free, final copy of Windows 7 Ultimate. For more information on how to take advantage of this, refer to Paul’s post in the .Beta_Program newsgroup for details.”

Here is the message on the newsgroup:

Thank you for doing your part in making Windows 7 great! As a member of the technical beta program you took the time to download, install and give us your feedback on Windows 7 during development. Over the last 7 months you have participated in chats, live meetings and newsgroups as well as reported bugs to help us find and fix many issues. To recognize your outstanding contribution to the product we are pleased to offer you a complimentary copy of Windows 7 for your personal use.

Details:

All current members of our English technical and international mini-beta programs are eligible.

We are offering you a full (non-upgrade) copy of Windows 7 Ultimate Edition for your own personal use, not to be resold.

You will be able to get access to your copy one of two ways:

A) To get up and running quickly you will be able to download your copy and get your product key via Microsoft Connect. English downloads will be available August 6th and other languages will follow as they become available.

B) Members of our English beta program have an alternative. We have reserved a limited amount of boxed retail copies that you can choose to receive instead. These are ‘first come, first served’. If you opt to have us ship you the boxed copy you should be aware that it will take much longer until you will be up and running on the final version. We will need time to manufacture and ship the copies to you. This means that you may not receive them until they are available on shelves October 22nd or later. Also, for people outside the United States you may be required to pay duties or other local taxes upon receipt.

Instructions and forms for choosing one of the above options will be available on Microsoft Connect on Monday August 3rd.

On behalf of the entire Windows product team, THANK YOU!

Paul

Google has been known to be one of the greenest companies out there, but this time I personally think that it’s gone way too far. Real Estate Director Dan Hoffman wrote on his blog that:

“From now on Google will no longer use lawn mowers to keep the hills around the GooglePlex free of weeds and brush. Instead, it will unleash a herd of goats and let them munch to their hearts’ content. A herder brings about 200 goats and they spend roughly a week with us at Google, eating the grass and fertilizing at the same time,” Hoffman wrote.

Although Google is eco-friendly, it is not the first to use goats instead of lawn mowers because apparently Yahoo! has been using this method for two years now. So do you think Google is doing more good by buying goats and saving the environment by not using a couple of lawn mowers? Or is it creating a problem by laying-off people in a tough economy who have families to support? Comment.

But in this article I will show you the five greatest sites to get your wallpapers from. So let’s begin.

5. DeviantArt - In 5th place is DeviantArt. This site is well known and most of you have most likely heard of it. This site has a very diverse collection of wallpapers.

4. SocWall - In 4th place is SocWall. This site is great, too, and my favorite part about it is that the site is organized and it’s easy to find a certain wallpaper. Another great feature of the site is that it’s really diverse — you have multiple categories and all sorts of wallpapers.

3. Bestwallz - In 3rd place is Bestwallz. This site has lot of wallpapers that look terrific. The site includes many and great quality wallpapers.

2. Desktop Nexus - In 2nd place, Desktop Nexus has a very nice, clean, and simple layout. This site has a ton of wallpapers that are very organized. Another great feature in this site is that everyone can review the wallpaper.

1. InterfaceLift - Finally in 1st place is InterfaceLift. This site is probably the best out there as of now. The wallpapers’ resolutions range from 320×240 to 2560×1600 and there are also 720p and 1080p wallpapers. But here is probably the best part: these resolutions apply to every single wallpaper on the site. InterfaceLift is also a great if you have an HDTV hooked up to your computer — then you can get 1080p wallpapers.

So those are the top 5 sites with the greatest wallpapers. Here are some other sites that didn’t make the list.

Pixelgirl

Caedes

Webshots

SocksOff

Mike Swanson

A 43-year-old Japanese woman who was angry that her virtual husband suddenly divorced her in a virtual game called Maple Story was arrested for hacking into his account and killing his virtual character. The virtual husband, who was 33, had worked on building his character for a year and as soon as he discovered what happened he called the authorities.
VMware and Parallels for Virtual Machines

It doesn't matter if you're running on Windows or Mac OS X - every power user needs either <a href="http://send.onenetworkdirect.net/z/13766/rn_a32755/">Parallels</a> or <a href="http://send.onenetworkdirect.net/z/17081/rn_a32755/">VMware</a> (or both). There's never been an easier way to test software without destroying your primary operating system's stability. Think of how many times you wish you could press a 'reverse' button on your computer. Plus, there's no easier way to try new Linux distributions - see what all the fuss is about. Run Windows in OS X, run Linux in Windows, but the best way to do either is with <a href="http://send.onenetworkdirect.net/z/17081/rn_a32755/">VMware</a> and/or <a href="http://send.onenetworkdirect.net/z/13766/rn_a32755/">Parallels</a>.
