Hack your DVD Player

This blog post is mostly pertaining to the foreigners who want to watch movies that have different region codes. So what’s a region code? “The purpose of this is to allow motion picture studios to control aspects of a release, including content, release date, and, especially, price, according to the region.” So let’s say you wanted to watch an Australian movie, so you buy it — but it doesn’t work on your US DVD player because Australia and the US have different region codes. So you can buy an Australian DVD player or unlock your DVD player to play every region code. I’d recommend going with the second one, so you go to a site like Video Help or DVD Codes.

After that you search through the databases for your DVD player and you will get a set of instructions explaining how to convert your DVD player to region 0, letting you watch DVDs from any region. But some DVD players will only allow you to unlock DVD Region codes from 1-8, so then you would have to switch it back to region 1 if you wanted to watch a movie from the US.
