“Secret details about the U.S. missile defense system were found on a computer hard drive bought on eBay during an investigation into personal data stored on computers being carelessly discarded, the Guardian reported.” The hard drive contained photos and personal data on employees. As of now that’s the only information the government has released and they plan on investigating who sold and bought the computer.

It looks like the government should have used DBAN to do a HD sweep.

To tell the truth i knew this some time back as they cut back with IT you lose the people that know how to clean a drive of data not just F-disk it.
I clean system of data and restore data I find system in surplus shops with data still on them .
Major companies data still on them contracts and all banking and personal data all still there for anyone to read.

I report it but nothng is done.
I have no pity for sloppy IT work

firstly i like to commwent that i hav e the knowlegde to acces any computer in the world so why are you people throwing out yoyur harddrive systems with all tha info on them and why can not you silly peoplr put these computers into a furnace like theydo to metals. i am sure that te computers can be used to fuel boiler systems and other furnaces as the info that you throw into the environment can get into the wrong sort of people who cab use the info for what ever. i am totally dismayed on the computer system to see miliatry intelligence systems benn publicy image across the world.
