Google Hires Goats

googlegoatsGoogle has been known to be one of the greenest companies out there, but this time I personally think that it’s gone way too far.

On Friday, Real Estate Director Dan Hoffman blogged that from now on, Google will no longer use lawn mowers to keep the hills around the GooglePlex free of weeds and brush. Instead, it will unleash a herd of goats and let them munch to their hearts’ content. “A herder brings about 200 goats and they spend roughly a week with us at Google, eating the grass and fertilizing at the same time,” Hoffman wrote.

Although Google is eco friendly they are not the first to use goats instead of lawn mowers because apparently Yahoo has been using this method for two years now. So do you think Google is doing more good by buying goats and saving the environment by not using a couple lawn mowers? Or are they creating a problem by laying-off people in a tough economy who have families to support? Comment.

Good grief… You know, they are actually now contributing to global warming because the “gas” that the goats pass as they roam around the hillsides eating grass is a socalled “greenhouse” gas.

No matter what we as humans do, we can not get away from the fact that we do emit “emmisions” and no amount of trying to be “green” is going to change that – the ONLY thing that will change how much emmisions we put into the air – whether they come from us, or because of us – is for our population to reduce in size – which, frankly, I don’t forsee as happening anytime soon.

The only “real” advantage to going green? Saving money.

Actually, it’s not a far-fetched idea at all! Goats don’t just cut down excess grass and foliage — they completely consume it, which is great for fire abatement (among having other natural benefits — I imagine fertilizer being another).

I think it’s great that companies are doing this for our benefit.

Doesn’t sound like too bad an idea to me! Although, there could be unwanted side effects (smell, etc.)
