Have you tried Camino? I’m not sure but it might work better for you.
If you care to try it: http://caminobrowser.org/
caminobrowser dot org
More here: http://caminobrowser.org/documentation/firefox/

I run FF on Ubuntu Linux. It will crash on occasion, but my Session Manager has restored every single session. Sorry for your bad Mac experiences. Here’s hoping Mac developers will jump on it. It’s truly a great product, IMHO.

In fairness, I have had Firefox crash on Linux (Ubuntu) as well as on Windows. It happens fairly rarely, but does occassionally happen. But then, I’ve had IE crash on Windows, too. I actively try to avoid using IE due to the on-going/legendary security problems/spyware susceptibilities it’s long suffered from. Primarily on Windows and Linux, I use Firefox. On Mac OS X, I primarily use Safari although I do use Firefox sometimes as well. On Mac OS X, I very rarely ever have a Firefox (or Safari) crash - more rarely than on Windows and Linux, even with extensions installed. And my main Mac is an Intel-based one (I think you said it primarily happens to you on Intel).

THANK YOU!! After FF crashed for the SIXTH time today, I Googled “Firefox crashes” and came upon your site. Agree 100%! Except for that last part about “running windows” (shudder).
For first two years on this machine, it was fine. Then a few months ago, it started to crash, so I upgraded everything. It still crashed.
Within the last month, it went from occasional, annoying, but tolerable crashes to so bad it’s affecting my productivity. I was going to go through another round of upgrades, but now I realize it ain’t me. Safari also crashes, but at least (knock wood) not as frequently. What’s really driving me crazy is that because FF originally worked so well, all my bookmarks and long forgotten password cookies are on FF. Blech…

Update here. After double-checking with tech-savvy friends, who all gave it a thumbs up, I downloaded Camino. So far (knock wood) no crashes. Same look and feel as FF. Importing bookmarks was eyeblink fast, and I’ve got a lot of bookmarks. One downside: It doesn’t import password files, which may have you paying a visit to Bugmenot. Also, one friend warns that some sites may not recognize it, but if that happens, you can always use the dreaded FF as backup. He also said it can get sluggish like FF can, so I assume the solution (close everything and restart the computer) is probably the same.
My guess is the Mozilla folks have given up real support for FF on the Mac, figuring people will turn to Camino. Give it a try–good luck from someone who feels your pain!

Update 2.0 Unfortunately, I have to warn you that Camino has now crashed twice. But both times I was clicking on a link in the NYTimes Web site, so hopefully it’s just a problem on that particular site. Same thing happend on FF too, maybe Mozilla has built in a procrastination filter : )

It’s no better on the pc. I’m running windows vista and my firefox just crashed on me two times in a row. I also use stumble upon and using that crashed my firefox everytime. I hate IE just as much, so now, firefox is just a distant memnory as for iam getting rid of it and trying something else.
