First off, I really wanted this game. It promised a different, more involved battle system that would keep you from being bored with combat. It has delivered on that promise, in my opinion. I generally had fun with the game that is, until my two 8800GT in SLI mode couldn’t handle the game at all anymore. I couldn’t do almost anything without the game crashing out. So I quit it a few months after release.
Last week sometime, I got an e-mail from Funcom that stated my character was “missing me”. Exactly whom a dark templar would miss other than a body to slice defies all logic, but I digress. They promised they had made vast improvements in the game since launch (which makes sense, after a year of release). I thought, why not, and did the free two weeks and even paid for a month so I could really get a feel for the game. Since my first venture with this game, my hardware has improved to a GTX 260 core 216. Needless to say, the game is still very pretty. People stuck on Direct X 9 will even note how pretty it is. There are a couple new options with the Direct X 10, including “realistic grass” which replaces the default spinny billboard grass. However, a lot of the other vegetation is still billboardy, but overall, the game is very pretty. If you can stand to only get 20 fps, crank it as much as you can and get at least that many fps. You’ll really enjoy it.
Now it does still have a few glitches, but they’re not game breakable. They can be a bit irritating, though. For instance, if you’re the first to populate your guild’s city instance, the buildings will build around you and may cause your sound to disappear. Overall, if you enjoyed the game but left due to technical reasons, you’ve got two days (offer expires on the 22nd) to claim your free two weeks. Try it for the two weeks and if you enjoy it, keep playing. Look up Andreius on the Cimmeria RP-PvP server if you’re interested.

Games? How old are you boy? Grow up! Stop playing and join the living. If it’s your desire to emulate Conan, get your outta shape ass in the gym. Quit dreaming and fantasizing. Robert E. Howard would not approve. Conan only had ONE chin! You’re welcome.

Yes, games. People play them, they’re just a bit fancier now-a-days. While my life is a little bit sedentary, I do work out three times a week now. Though, I’m guessing from your name you’d like to be like the famed musician, Jimmy Buffet. Well then, get your out of tune ass into a music store, buy a few method books and practice. I guess you could be wanting to emulate Warren Buffet as well. You don’t make millions of dollars by criticizing someone for playing a game. You find something that sells or that you can do best and capitalize upon it. Though all the schools tell us we’re special, most of us are only ordinary people. Also, I find it interesting that you used such a broad term as “games.” Basketball is a “game.” Football is a “game.” Ultimate Frisbee is a “game.” Should I stop playing those as well? Come now, why would I want to emulate Conan? I don’t want to be a barbarian stuck in ages past. I enjoy his story, yes, but that doesn’t mean I want to be him. Age of Conan does somewhat sate my creative desire as well (rping, try it sometime). You also seem to have a misguided notion that I would thank you for such derogatory commentary. Here is what I believe you are afraid of. You’re afraid that if we embrace the digital culture where we don’t have to visualize things and exercise our imaginations that we’ll become droll and boring. However, Barnes and Noble are in no danger of being run out of business. Libraries are not being shut down. People still read and exercise their imaginations. I do it. I enjoy a good novel. I picked up one recently that was a speculative upon World War II. It was called 1942 by Robert Conroy. You also seem to believe that adults do not play video games. I assure you that you are mistaken. I know many adults that play them and many that are above the age of forty. I assure you that I am not dead to the world. Quite the opposite. Try living outside of your dream world. Dare to try these things that you despise called “video games.” Though, I wouldn’t say no to a good game of basketball, football, soccer, or even yahtzee, Texas Hold-Em, or Clue. Games let you experience the impossible just as books and movies do. They have a firm grasp in our culture and I doubt they will be leaving soon. Good day, sir.

Nice retort. Sadly, it’s not me, but you, who live lives in a dream world. You speak of experiencing the impossible. How do know what’s impossible until you’ve tried? I thought my Phil McGraw approach at enlightening you might open your eyes to the infinite possibilities that exist all around you. Instead it only served to to inflame you into defending your illogical, immature stance. I’ll leave you with a good ‘rule of thumb’ for deciding whether or not an activity is worthwhile or not: Ask yourself, could you picture John Rambo doing it? Example: Can you picture Rambo text messaging? Not just no, but hell no! I rest my case. You’ll get no further argument from me, you poor misguided, tortured soul.

First, I don’t have text messaging. I don’t have a need for it. However, to use your own ‘rule of thumb’ against you. I can’t see Rambo reading blogs or taking the time to comment on them. I believe you are the illogical one. I have no idea what you read that made you think I shut my eyes at “the infinite possibilities that exist all around” me. Using your ‘rule of thumb’ my collegiate major would not be a worthwhile activity. You sir, are the misguided one.

It was never my intent to agressively engage you, my friend. May I state, for the record, that I both admire and appreciate your willingness to answer me and to defend your position on the issues. Many others would simply have censored my comments. For that you’re to be commended. I salute your courage and your tenacity. I also sincerely wish you all the best. Let us agree to disagree. Carpe diem!
