Google Maps vs. Bing Maps

I’ve been using Google for years. I thought that Google’s Map feature was pretty accurate and pretty good. Well, Bing seems to maybe be a bit more accurate. For example, if you search for the Whataburger I used to work for, “Whataburger, Waxahachie, TX,” the first result for both engines is the one I used to work at (used to Google would point to one in Red Oak for some reason, but they’ve fixed that).

However, if you take a look at the “Bird’s Eye View” in Bing, you’ll notice it’s at the intersection before the Whataburger. With Google, it places the location marker at the intersection where a gas station is. I’m sure the directions for both sites will get me there as well, it’s hard to miss a giant orange and white building. Though for searches for buildings that don’t stand out as much it could be a bad omen for Google.

I hadn’t really paid much attention to Bing as I’m using Google Chrome as my browser. However, I may start using Bing more often if it’s this much more accurate on maps than Google.

google vs microsoft, when will it end?

i like the bing maps but i really want a iphone version iphone version of the bird eyes view would be awesome and a great alternative to the google maps app

I personally do not like Bing, somehow it does not look too user friendly. But you never know, maybe after some time I will egt used to it.

As of now I prefer Google’s services, including Maps.

The “problem” with both is outdated maps. Google has by far the newest satellite/aerial images - about 2 years old for the area I search the most. Bing’s images are about 4 years old. But for free, can’t expect much, and in urban US areas, it’s probably the realtors who pay for updates???

I had noticed the difference between different mapping programs for a while now. I even started developing a project at http://www.mapvsmap.com. Currently it shows side by side comparisons for google maps vs mapquest, however I think I may add functionality for bing as well. Please check it out and let me know what you think :)

Google can zoom in far closer than Bing, in addition to having street view.

In relation to accuracy google has been more accurate for me when searching for my house. Bing actually pointed to an intersection down the other end of my street - wrong direction mate!
