Today is the release day for the new Playstation 3 firmware 2.41, if you tried updating to 2.40 then there is a possible chance that you were one of the unlucky few who got a bricked ps3. Apparently the new firmware will fix this for you yet I don’t see how as if you have a bricked ps3 then you can’t even get access to the actual ps3 OS. When the 2.40 firmware got released it was only available for a short amount of time as when Sony released it they got a few phone calls from ps3 owners saying that the new firmware bricked their ps3 but some people were ok with the new firmware, I had no trouble with it and at the moment my ps3 is still running fine on the 2.40 firmware and I will update to the new one later.

If you’re wondering what the new firmware has to bring to the ps3 then this is what you’ll be getting, an in game XMB menu so you can access all the options on the menu while playing a game and you can also play music while playing but not all games are compatible with this feature. The next feature is trophies, I haven’t really looked into the trophies but obviously it’s some kind of an achievement that you get to show off to your friends. That’s it for the new firmware so not much is being added but a lot of people have been waiting for the chance of having the in game menu so they can play music while playing games which if you’re a gaming fan then you’ll know that the first Xbox was able to do this so my question is what took Sony so long to bring this feature to us?

Another thing is that you’ll be able to send messages to your friends when playing on a game to ask them if they want to do something like join an online room to play against you or tell them you just got the high score on whatever you’re playing, these were the main things that were pointed out in the demo video of the new firmware. Anyway I hope you weren’t a victim of the bricking but if you were then feel free to post your comments on your experience.
