600 Million internet users at risk, mainly IE users

  • No Related Post

I was browsing around on news websites earlier and came across something that I found quite interesting, I headed on over to bbc.co.uk on their news website and went into their technology section and came across this as the main article:

Online risk due to browser flaws

Almost half the online population is at risk because users have not installed security updates to their browsers, says a study.

The article goes on to say that people need to update their browser right away to avoid getting targeted by hackers, most Firefox users are fully up to date but it’s Internet Explorer users who are not updating (who can blame them? But that’s another topic.) they also mentioned having something like an expiry date forcing users to update when the older version of the browser becomes out of date and could be at risk.

I think that would be an interesting thing to do as a lot of people are not aware of when and how to update so creating something that would just pop up and say you must update now please click here might be good. On the other hand i can see it being bad as some people might consider it to be some sort of bad pop up scam message. The full article can be found here
