The second iphone

After doing some research about the iphone i have seen loads of sources mentioning the iphone 2 and that it will be released this year so my question is why? As far as i go i think the iphone we have now is perfectly fine apart from a few things that could be added but those can be added in a firmware update and again why are apple making all these firmware updates if everyone basically know that there is going to be a newer model released in the future and aparantly thats not very far away. I seen a news report on youtube the other day about the iphone (the report was done before the original iphone was released) and they said how apple had already announced the second iphone before they have even released the first iphone, all i can say is that apple has totally confused me with this decision and i don’t see what profit they can get from this but thats just me.
