Going Pink For October

This month, many of my Web sites (including this one) will be going pink. Why am I going pink?October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and I wanted to show my support for great causes like Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the efforts of the Pink for October Web site, as well.What am I doing to show my support locally?I’m also doing my part in helping the cause by volunteering with a local Susan G. Komen for the Cure Affiliate event called Laugh for the Cure. Laugh for the Cure is an affiliate event of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and all proceeds benefit a local Komen Affiliate. Komen is widely recognized as the nation’s leading catalyst in the fight against breast cancer. Laugh for the Cure is a PG comedy and charity event founded in Charlotte, NC in 2002. I heartily agree with “Laugh for the Cure”.
I spent a little over a year working on the oncology ward of a hospital in the town I grew up in. I was several times reprimanded for making too much noise, laughing too loudly, and joking around far too often. The prevailing reasoning of the time was that these patients were dying, and needed peace and quiet.
I was of the opinion then, and still am to this day, that diversion from thoughts of death will drive it out of the mind of someone suffering from illness, and what better diversion than laughter.
I (loudly, mind you) applaud your efforts and will definitely help spread the word.

Hi! Thanks so much for making people aware. My wife was diagnosed in Sept. with breast cancer. We have been muddling our way through all the decisions you have to make and all the medical stuff you never heard of before. It can be quite stressful and wear you out. I never realized everything you go through until now! It’s nice to know people are out there supporting a good cause. Thanks again!
