Test Me To Prove My Knowledge?

Does test taking truly prove how much someone knows? As a college student going through final exams right now, I would say absolutely not, but I could be wrong. There are some biases that linger into the exams. It could be the word usage of a problem, or even just the style in which it is written. Sometimes people infer different meanings from the same questions. Multiple choice also doesn’t help very much. I absolutely believe that standardized tests such as the ACT are biased and that it is more about the skill of taking the test, than the knowledge behind it. Don’t get me wrong, you have to be very smart to get over a 30, but sometimes, some people just aren’t good test takers. On average tests such as the ACT generally benefit males the most. They claim that men generally do better, due to the gambling affect of the multiple choice questions, which does not compare as favorably to the female thought process. Also, the more affluent also do better on tests like these.
Wow, so these days in order to do really well at taking standardized tests, or multiple choice for that matter, one must be male and come from an affluent background? Something definitely wrong with that picture isn’t it? America isn’t as much of the meritocracy as people thought it was.
