EA have announced that they have donated the original SimCity game to OLPC so they can install it on their low cost laptop.
“‘SimCity’ is entertainment that’s unintentionally educational. Players learn to use limited resources to build and customize their cities. There are choices and consequences, but in the end, it’s a creativity tool that’s only limited by the player’s imagination,” said Steve Seabolt, vice president of global brand development for the Sims label.
OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) was set up to give children in the developing countries a better education and a chance to communicate with others around them the laptop gives them access to basic open source application and Wi-Fi connectivity. Some of the countries that will benefit from the OLPC initiative are Uruguay, Peru, Mexico, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Haiti, Cambodia and India.
I think EA have done good by doing this and I think that other tycoon and simulation games should be put on the laptop, what do you think? And what games or applications would you like to see on the $100 laptop?
