How To Enable Google Plus 1 in Search Results
If you enable Google +1 for your Google account, it allows you to “share recommendations with the world right in Google’s search results,” according to Google’s blog. Google +1 makes recommendations from friends relevant in search results – making search results more social, because you get to see what your friends consider to be valuable results. These Google +1 search results are shared with your Google social network – which is notably different from other social networks. Google +1 results are seen by friends and co-workers in your Google chat list and in your Google contact list, rather than Facebook friends or Twitter followers.
When you enable Google Plus 1, you will see personalized search results from other friends in your +1 network who have recommended a link relevant to your search result. It’s similar to how the “like” button works and is integrated into social search already. The results by your friends will start to have higher rankings in your personalized search results, blurring the lines between SEO and social media. Having more friends in your +1 network could have a huge impact on your personal blog, especially some of these friends are high profile.
Here’s how to enable Google Plus 1:
1. Create a Google Profile – this is where you can see all of your +1′s in one place, and delete those you no longer want to recommend.
2. Sign into Google.
3. Visit the Google Experimental Search Page.
4. Click “Join This Experiment”.
5. Search Google.com and recommended search results using the +1 button
Right now, Google +1 is experimental, and Google is starting the experiment by rolling out the feature in English on Google.com. For now, you will be able to +1 just search results and ads, but in coming months, the +1 button will start to appear alongside other Google products and sites across the web, too. Website owners will also be able to eventually place a +1 button on their blogs with existing Twitter and Facebook “share” buttons.
