LinkedIn InMaps Visualize Your Business Connections

Posted by on Jan 24, 2011 | 3 Comments

Ever wondered how your LinkedIn connections are connected to you – and each other? Now you can visualize your business connections with InMaps from LinkedIn – an experimental project that creates a visualization of your connections.

InMaps detects the relationships between your connections on LinkedIn and groups, and then breaks these relationships into different network clusters. For example, LinkedIn separated my networks into seven clusters, primarily composed of former and current colleagues. It also detected clusters of friends from during and after college. The visualization provided surprising insight into who are primary connectors and influencers in my network.

InMaps also includes a few options for sharing, including via Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. I’m not sure what use InMap provides other than noting who may be worth developing a closer relationship with – or on the flip side, who has little useless in an overall business network. (Note: I’m kidding. Kind of.)

Does InMaps show you anything you didn’t already know about your LinkedIn connections?

Another difference is the way OPENForum utilizes key words. Business owners input key words about what they do (web design, marketing, sales, etc.) and what they might need. OPENForum’s Connectodex searches OPENForum’s site for potential contacts and presents them to you, the business owner. Profiles in the Connectodex are intentionally designed to highlight what businesses have in common with each other, making networking and connecting easier than ever. These contacts can be businesses that provide what you need, businesses that are in the same location as you, businesses that provide similar services, or any other type of connection your custom settings indicate. Connectodex does most of the social networking for you; all you have to do then is make contact.
