Facebook Launches New Messages and Facebook Email Addresses

Posted by on Jan 10, 2011 | 4 Comments

Last November, Facebook announced it was launching a new messaging feature. The new Facebook messages has finally launched! Tonight, when users log in they may see the option to “see whats new” and upgrade, although it’s rolling out slowly so not everyone has it yet. The upgrade to new Facebook Messages is optional, and users can see the features before they opt to switch.

Some Facebook users will see a pop-up bubble on Facebook the next time they log in alerting them to the official launch of the new Facebook Messages. The bubble invites Facebook users that the upgrade is finally available – and just to see whats new. It is not a required switch – yet. To see the features of Facebook’s New Messages, click on “See What’s New.”

The new messages display Facebook chats, messages and texts all in one place. It also includes email by activating your email address. You can also see everything you’ve discussed with the person in one place. Another great feature is that messages from your friends are features – everything else goes into the “other” folder.

If you choose to upgrade, you’ll be asked to activate your Facebook email, which is created based on your name – for example, mine is now “KellyClay@Facebook.com” (lets see how Facebook handles spam, shall we.) Once everything is set up, emails sent from your Facebook friends from their email account associated with their Facebook account with be sent to your Facebook Messaging inbox as if it came from their Facebook account, so you will see their profile picture and name. All emails sent moving forward will be threaded into previous conversations with friends. Pretty smart.

The new Facebook Messages are definitely an upgrade. Let us know what you think – have you upgraded yet? Will Facebook replace your Inbox?

I don’t think Facebook will replace my current email Inbox. I’m really surprised that they’ve taken this long to implement an email service on Facebook. Thought it would be sooner then later. Seems “later” is now here.

I’m not totally on board with Facebook, though I do have a Facebook account but it’s more or less keep to family & close friends for now. I do follow or I should say “Like” some individual’s FB pages such as Chris Pirillo’s. You can always count on Chris for lots of good tech info…and NO that was no suck up to Chris. He’s still a ass, lol j/k Chris.

It’ll be interesting to see how a Facebook email will change the playing field in time though I don’t think it will change much because I’m pretty happy with my reg email, my hotmail, gmail, my aol email, my tracfone email, my wii email and now if I get it a FB email account. Guess you can’t have to many email now a days. lol

Good blog post article Kelly, Thank you!

When I was much younger the expression we used was “If the music is too loud then you are too old.” I can enjoy my Home Theater with my amp at its absolute lowest volume setting now. Does this mean I’m going to die soon? (Actually loved AVATAR at nearly full volume, and Forrest Gump played loud during his Vietnam run sequence blew the cone of my powered sun-woofer. Yea, Forrest Gump.)

There is no point as the Decibel system here without first mention the distant. For example, thundering generally consider a very loud noise with high dB rating, but how about if thundering happens over a hundred mile away? Mosquitoes humming is generally consider to be a little sound, but it is quite annoying if that mosquito is humming just outside your ear. People making use of the dB system would they making it clear?
