As many people know by now Plaxico Burress, the New York Giants’ wide receiver, shot himself in the thigh by mistake. I know it was a mistake and I am sure he feels really bad for what he did to himself and the Giants organization. Plaxico has most likely played his last game of the season for the Giants and in the National Football League at least for a while. The Giants will probably put him on the non football injury list or the physically unable to perform list. After playing in the Superbowl and helping the Giants get there, now he has become a huge distraction for the team.

Tom Coughlin of the New York Giants has done a really good job of controlling his team and the off-the-field issues that Plaxico has run into. You’d think, with all the trouble that he’s caused, this team would be doing awfully - instead, it keeps winning games.

Don’t get me wrong, I think he is an amazing football player but after shooting himself in the thigh I think he’s kind of an idiot; especially doing this in New York where gun laws are strict. He is expected to plead not guilty sometime today. Plaxico has a been charged with a class C felony charge, which contains at least a minimum of three years in prison. He is trying to get a Class D felony charge, which could be only two years in jail. Burress’ lawyer was able to get Sean Combs (Puff Daddy) off the same type of case; the laws have changed since then because of this lawyer — that was about seven years ago. Plaxico did not have a license to carry the gun in the state of New York. If he would have had a license he would have gotten into less trouble. Granted this is New York City and they do not mess around with gun laws at all.

Burress is most likely going to jail for three years or more. This is a shame to people who looked up to him as a role model; It’s just like the Michael Vick Story. Vick was a great football player and he was accused of dog fighting and now he might not ever play for a football team again. Vick and Burress were really good players and it’s sad to see this happen to them. I wish Plaxico Burress the best of luck.
