My thoughts of Google Chrome.

  • No Related Post

Today was the release of Google’s brand new open source project called Google Chrome. I didn’t even know what it was untill I did some research on it, I was a bit skepitcal to download another browser on to my compuuter.  I already have Opera, FireFox, Safari, Internet Explorer and many more installed. So I was worried about taking up space.

But of course I have nothing to worry about because it’s Google after all, So it shouldnt take up much space at all. I was so antsy to download it, I was at school all day and I wanted to try Google Chrom but I couldn’t because I was at school. So when I got home I downloaded it. I thought that it was going to be just another Firefox clone, same layout, everything. I was wrong.
Google Chrome is very nice, It’s elegant. Extremly fast. It uses webkit so it makes it very nice to use. Like most browsers today it uses opensource so that makes it very nice to tweak. It is tweakable to some extent. I am still trying to figure it out.  It also brings a nice clean interface. So you wont have to deal with a lot of clutter, like Google Toolbar or Yahoo Toolbar. Which could also be a huge downside.

Like most browsers today it has security built in so that you don’t need to worry about getting infected with spyware or viruses and so on. Which is one reason I refuse to lay my finger on Internet Exolorer. Internet Explorer does have some security holes wich have yet to be filled in, So I don’t really like to use it at all. Microsoft has yet to get on the ball with that. They are very slow at it.
Right now I am currently right this or did write this blog post in Google Chrome. I am really putting it to the test early. When I first a new browser, that has been released, or has been updated. I like to load multiple fast to see if It can load them all at the same time. Or even to see if it crashes. Why you ask? Well because I want a stable non crashable browser. I also test to see if Adobe flash is working correctlcy on the browser. I also tested to see know if you have a lot of flash sites open, like Youtube Ustream.tv or NFL.com or Mlb.com open if it will lag. and It did. Majorly. I also see if having to many tabs opens crashes it. It didnt crash persay, but it did start to lock up and lag a bit. But so does any other browser. Call me crazy, But that is something that I want my browser to do. I want it to be fast and stable.
My thoughts of it so far? Well what can I say, It is very good. Fast elegant, organized virus free. It does some getting used to. Now therea few things I hate about it. Which is probably my biggest gripe at the moment. I wish it had “File” “Options” so on at the top and the tabs a bar lower. It looks like Internet Explorer with the Options and home button, which is driving me crazy at the moment. It also doesn’t have a good configuration page like Firefox does.
I  can’t go into any configuration page and configurate it the way I want it to be. Maybe I am not looking hard enough? I know I am really picky and I like my browser to look a certain way. It does seem like it will hold up and that It will last for awhile.
But I think the big question is, will it be around for awhile? Since so many people use firefox and safari and internet explorer, will it be shunned and be forgotten? Who know’s? Maybe it will prevail and become a top dog in the browser market share. It might even make Firefox an underdog, I guess only time will tell now.
