Fishing trip recap

So Tuesday night around seven o’clock at night I arrived back to my home in lovely Illinois. I just finished my fishing trip that I do every year with my cousin uncle and my dad. I have always enjoyed it and fishing is becoming something I enjoy doing more and more now. Fishing can be rather boring at times, Yes I know that. But when you’re on a boat and outside on a lovely day there it can be nice to fish. I have grown to like the outdoors a lot more. Every year I go up there I catch at least one fish.
This year was no exception at all. I caught two beautiful large mouth bass. Let me tell ya those fish fight hard and don’t give up. You really have to have a lot of muscle and strength to reel in those kind of fish. When you catch a fish like that you don’t want to try and reel him in at once, If you do you will break the line and the fish will escape. You want to let the fish play with you underwater. What I mean by that is let him tire out and let him fight the fishing pole. The longer and harder he fights the tireder the fish gets.
My dad caught a real nice seventeen inch small mouth bass. He fought that fish for a good ten or fifteen minutes before it tired out. I have to respect this fish, He put up a real good fight. It jumped out of the lake a good three or four times. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a fish fight that much. My dad had almost all of his line out from his fishing pole. This lake at point can get anywhere from 70 feet deep and other times it can get to 20 feet deep. It’s a very deep lake. So you really have to fish deep in order to catch a fish at times. The deeper you get the more likely you are of catching a fish. There are no motor boats allowed at all on this lake. You can olny canoe, So you have to be really strong to paddle a canoe and even fight the wind at times. There is more then one lake in the whole deep woods. You have to portage to all of them. I’ve been on two others. Canoeing isn’t as easy as it seems at times. A lot of times you have to paddle hard to fight the wind or even beat a storm. So if you are really inexperienced and you get caught out in the lake and you don’t know what to do it’s a huge disaster for you. The first year I went up there I was so inexperienced and my dad had to bail us out of a lot of almost everything. We were so dysfunctional now we’re a good team and we paddle hard and deep to avoid the wind from blowing us around. I have gotten a lot better and stronger because of paddling a canoe. It has made me stronger that is for sure.
Not only did I go fishing but I went camping while I was up there. Camping is fun and it really makes you think it was before there were houses and beds. Sleeping on dirt inside a tent really takes a lot of you. You do sleep good but it really hurts your back. When you’re camping up there there really are no rules. You just have to be quite at ten o’clock at night until six in the morning. There are facilities up there so you can groom yourself. So you aren’t a complete savage. One thing to watch out for is bears, deers and other wild animals. In other words don’t leave food out in the open where an animal could reach it. While out in the wilderness it can get really cold, so in order to keep yourself warm you have to build a fire to keep yourself warm. There is no television at all or even news so you are completely drawn away from what’s going on in the world. Now we car camped, meaning we picked a camp site and then setup camp and the car has all are stuff in it. Last year we wilderness camped. Wilderness camping is cool but you don’t any outhouse or a car if something, so if something does happen you have to canoe to the car. Plus you are out in the woods when you wilderness camp so you can’t put the food in the car when you sleep. Last year we had to tie it to a tree to keep it away from bears and deers and whatever else might get to it.
As you can tell I had a lot of fun. I love going up to sylvania and camping and fishing. It really takes my mind off of things. I don’t have to deal with drama and people fighting. It really helps me be a better person. Every year I do it I feel better after I come back. I know that I have gotten stronger due to paddling and fighting’ fish. I enjoy being outdoors and in the woods. It’s amazing out there and it’s amazing what you see and what you run into.
