Comcast as many of you may know has been traffic shaping many of there customers for downloading legal or illegal BitTorrents. Now the Federal Communication Commission is investigating Comcast for traffic shaping. Now it looks like the United Kingdom is telling all internet Service Provider in the United Kingdom to crack down on the piracy. This is just wrong whatever happened to freedom of speech? Don’t we as Americans have the right to do what we want to do?
I know piracy is wrong and I don’t know the rules and regulations in the United Kingdom, but if I want to use BitTorrent for legals reasons then I see nothing wrong with that. Most people do not use peer to peer file sharing in that way. On the other hand piracy is not something I tolerate. If you want to watch a movie than buy it off iTunes or any other online music source. If you use Netflix than go rent it there. I don’t see a problem with someone maybe downloading one movie off of BitTorrent once. But doing it all the time is what is going to get you into in trouble.
But I still have a problem with this. If my ISP or any other ISP is watching me then that is like telling the government to monitor and listen to every cellphone call I make. This all goes back to freedom of speech. I guess I’m going to have to move to Canada. This is getting out of hand. I am not asking for a completely free Internet but does an Internet service provider like Comcast or SBC (AT&T) have the right to monitor my traffic and see if I am doing anything illegal?
